So it’s nearly 10 pm here in the UK, the birthday boy has just got to bed after a long, fun and tiring day at Legoland and here I am getting my 20th blaugust post out :)  (if I’d been sensible, I would have pre-written it…) I’m going to keep it easy today and tomorrow and take part in Cannot be Tamed’s Gaming Questionnaire.  I’ll answer 10 questions today and 10 tomorrow.

1. When did you start playing video games?
I’m not going to count the early dipping in and out of arcade / very early consoles so I’ll say around 1990 on the Sega Megadrive.

2. What is the first game you remember playing?
err… Pong… /hides

3. PC or Console?
Mostly PC now.  I haven’t played a console game properly since my JRPG extravaganza about 10 years ago.

4. XBox, PlayStation, or Wii?
I’ll say Playstation as we have one and neither of the others.

5. What’s the best game you’ve ever played?
oh… erm…  there are a lot of games for a lot of different reasons and moods but desert island time… any of the Elder Scrolls titles from Daggerfall onwards.

6. What’s the worst game you’ve ever played?
I think… Sims: Medieval – not the game I thought it would be and had terrible timed quests, terrible camera view and terrible controls.  Not necessarily the worst, but off the top of my head the only one I can think of.

7. Name a game that was popular/critically adored that you just didn’t like.
Lots I suppose, perhaps Rift (MMO).  Nothing wrong with the game as such, it just didn’t grab me for some reason.

8. Name a game that was poorly received that you really like.
I suppose Elder Scrolls Online might count given the backlash it received.  Absolutely love the game though.

9. What are your favourite game genres?
RPGs without a doubt and builder games (minecraft, towns)

10. Who is your favourite game protagonist?
My favourite characters are Minsc (We are all heroes; you and Boo and I. Hamsters and rangers everywhere, rejoice! – see I can still quote him, that’s got to say something!), Brynjolf and Karliah (Thieves Guild, Skyrim), Aveline from Dragon Age 2 for being so probable yet unusual in a game, Broín from Lotro’s epic story…  oh Razum Dar from ESO :D  (we call our kitten JiJi Dar now and pretend he speaks in his voice…)
